A MAJOR Veterans Sports Bonanza For Tanzania’s Southern Highlands Is Set To Take Place In Rungwe District, Mbeya Region, From November 1–2, 2025, Bringing Together Over 2,000 Retired Football Players From Six Regions To Showcase Their Skills, Experience, And Passion For The Game.

Speaking To Reporters On October 19, 2025, The Secretary-General Of The Southern Highlands Veterans Union, Michael Ndolanga, Said A Total Of 15 Teams Are Expected To Participate In The Event, With Rungwe Veterans Hosting And The District Commissioner, Jaffar Haniu, Officiating As The Guest Of Honor.

Mbeya Region Will Feature Five Teams — Rungwe Veterans, Kyela Veterans, Mbalizi Veterans, Mwanjelwa Veterans, And Mbeya Legends Veterans.

From Ruvuma Region, Teams Include Songea Veterans And Mbinga Veterans; Iringa Region Will Be Represented By Mkwawa Veterans, Ilula Veterans, And Igowole Veterans; While Njombe Region Brings Njombe Veterans And Njombe Pamoja.

Songwe Region Will Feature Tunduma Veterans, Enjoy Veterans, And Defending Champions Mbozi Veterans.

Ndolanga Noted That The Veterans Bonanza, Which Began In 2019, Is Held Twice A Year, Providing Not Only Competitive Excitement But Also Fostering Unity, Health, And Social Support Among Retired Footballers. The Event Has Also Become A Platform For Offering Economic Opportunities And Assisting Members During Times Of Bereavement And Hardship.

He Called On Sports Stakeholders And Corporate Sponsors To Support The Initiative Through Prizes, Sports Gear, And Team Kits, Emphasizing That The Event Is Largely Driven By Volunteer Spirit.

“We Do This Out Of Passion And Dedication, But It Would Be Great To Have More Partners Join Us In Motivating These Veterans Who Continue To Value Sports As A Source Of Unity And Well-Being,” Said Ndolanga.

The Two-Day Bonanza Is Expected To Leave A Lasting Impact On Rungwe District, As Veteran Players Relive The Golden Days Of Tanzanian Football And Prove They Still Have The Magic Touch On The Field.
